ALISON WOOD – LILY PADS

Lilypads is a business selling comfortable reusable period pads to ensure that no one is limited by their period.

Lilypads started three years ago, when Alison was researching how to effectively teach sexual health in rural Kenya and found that many of the girls could not afford period products. She began designing her own pads and selling them at a subsidised rate to ensure the girls have access.

Along that journey, Alison also realised that most women in the UK find that their pads are uncomfortable and bulky so she adapted the design sold in Kenyan for the UK, to ensure it fit the market here.

Lilypads donates 10% of its UK revenue to its international projects, subsidising the sale of period products globally. Lilypads currently operates in Cambodia, Kenya and Uganda.

KATE SAMUELSON – CHEAPSKATE

The Cheapskate London newsletter is the ultimate guide to the capital’s best free events. From gigs, films and plays to talks, workshops and live comedy, Cheapskate makes London’s incredible cultural offerings more accessible to everyone – even those on a shoestring budget.

The newsletter now reaches more than 5,000 people each week and has been featured by The Guardian, The Evening Standard, The Metro and BBC Radio London.

During the pandemic, Kate switched the focus to curating the best free virtual events to help people in lockdown.

TINA CHEN – HUMANITEA

Chief Tea Officer Tina Chen, a Taiwanese-American living in London, was inspired by bubble tea concept and British tea drinking culture to develop a healthy, well-balanced tea latte beverage.

Tackling the problem of  sugary soft drinks, HumaniTea crafts refreshing Plant-based Tea Lattes available in Matcha Green Tea and Classic Earl Grey flavours. Brewed with actual tea leaves, creamy oat milk, and ethically-sourced, quality ingredients, the deliciously smooth Vegan Tea Lattes exclude artificial flavours and contain low sugar.

HumaniTea encourages people to take tea breaks throughout the day and night to find mindfulness.

SAMANTHA JACKMAN – BOOST

Boost make breast forms for women that want to create shape and contour under clothing, ditching the traditional beige gel prosthesis for an open structured, patterned and colourful alternative.

Boost Breast Forms are made in a low-waste production process, where the boob silicone is recycled into new boobs (or other things) making  them more environmentally friendly.

Boost breast forms are at least 50% lighter and 50% cheaper than a traditional prosthesis, and are designed to bring joy and help women to feel good.

HENDA SCOTT – JAMII DESIGNS

Jamii dresses are for women who love looking good and doing good.

With employment being rife in rural African villages, many women have to travel far and leave their children in the care of others to earn a living.

By training and employing rural women as dressmakers and allocating a portion of the profits of each Jamii dress sold towards community projects specific to their area, the women can earn an income close to their homes to keep supporting both their families and their communities.

This is what Jamii aims to do.
